Investors

In a post financial crisis world, investors are seeking a bedrock focus on capital preservation and protection from inflation. The end of the financial crisis does not however remove us from the reality of population growth, increasing developing world consumption and natural resource degradation/decline. There are obvious pressures in terms of water, energy, biodiversity, food and soil, all of which will only be further exacerbated by climate change .

These pressures do however create an environment where sophisticated, insightful investors can benefit. Farmland is an asset class that is relevant in terms of all those pressure points/investment themes identified above. It is not just farmland however but the management of the asset that provides opportunities for value capture and investment outperformance.

Farmland is a relatively novel asset class and one where barriers to entry can be high and knowledge scarce. What are the key determinants in making an investment in farmland? How do you position yourself within farmland investment to benefit in the face of the key pressure points (water, energy, biodiversity, food and soil)? How do you access the knowledge, and experience of robust, resilient and measurably sustainable farmland investment management?
